Stills from The Architect and the Painter
I've never seen this documentary about the famous chair designer Eames, but I love the still photos. That first one make me want to take pictures of tabletops from above every time I have a dinner party. Love all the colors on the table. And the guests look very sophisticated. I love photos of people enjoying life!

Cheer
Since I still havn't found my camera cord and I havn't bought or borrowed a card reader yet, I decided to share a tree I thought was amazing that I saw on Design Sponge. This tree was painted right on the wall in a corner. Easy to paint over again once the season is over and how whimsical it is! They hung the ornaments from the ceiling in front as you can probably tell.
I also wanted to share this cool idea that I may be trying this year. It's a yearly journal where you write down one thing that happened to you each day. But the coolest part is you keep using it every year so after a while you have a few years worth of activities on each card. I think it would be cool especially to compare holidays and birthdays.
Example: December 24: 2010-sang carols with family
2011-watched The Christmas Carol and drank hot cocoa
2012-Went to look at lights around town
They used postcards to separate each month.

Chiffon Flower Necklaces
I really love these chiffon flower necklaces that have been becoming so popular amongst handmade artisans. I am wearing one below, though it's not very easy to tell. I bought this one on etsy and was kind of thinking I'd figure out how to make them from it because what I really want is one in creams, whites, and peachy pinks. Or maybe grey.
Like this one from etsy seller twigs and honey:
I also am thinking it would lovely to make some giant centerpieces flowers out of cheesecloth and burlap. Kind of natural and layer-y sumptuousness.

Elizabeth Gilbert on the Creative Process
The author of Eat, Love, Pray talks about the artist and an idea that creativity is actually a separate entity, like the Romans and Greeks believed. This saves the artist from killing himself, depression, and/or making a mess of himself because as long as he shows up to do his part of the work, he cannot fail. It is creativity's fault if the work fails. Anyway, just watch it.

Lovely Parisian Girl
I found another fashion blog written by a cute french girl, The Cherry Blossom Girl. These are a couple of my favorite images from her blog, not really for the fashion but for the wonder and dreamyness. This is how I like to picture winter to keep me happy after the holidays. This girl is really good at finding a great wall covered in gorgeous wall paper for her indoor shots.

A Photographer to watch...

I stumbled upon the photographer Julie Blackmon through several of my weekly blog reads. I love her "domestic vacations" as she calls them. Their such truth and fantasy both in these wonderful autobiographical family shots. I also love how there are just parts of people in some of these, going out of the shot. So much movement that they feel real, like your watching a movie or something. Go to www.julieblackmon.com to see her portfolio.
Design Friday

I am a horrible blogger sometimes because I post things from other blogs and don't site them. But I save the images and never seem to remember where I got them. Except for the black balloon girl, that's the My Favorite Color is Shiny blogger. Anyway....
This Friday the theme is Fairytale and Fantasy. Except for that pic of typography art which I love. thinkin' of my own versions now... I also love the girl atop the mile of mattresses--the princess and the pea. And LOVE the picnic photo. Makes me want to stage my own picnic photo shoot. I need girl models! Anyone?

Doodle-bug.
"When I get excited, when I get this feeling inside, all I can do is scribble. When everything inside of me comes together, I have to lay it down on paper. It comes out hurried, scribbled, but full of emotion. Like my heart is pouring out through the tip of my pen. Somehow I feel connected on all levels on and within my spiritual nature, my emotions and thoughts blend, revealing me to myself. " --excerpt from my sketchbook that is a fairly good description of these sketches from the same book.
My sisters birthday present finished. It's called "She commands the sun". I painted a Georgia O'keefe stylized sun and a bird onto the photograph that was also inspired by photos of Georgia that were taken Alfred Stieglitz.

Soleil. Sol. Sun.
I bought this CD a few weeks ago and have been listening to it nonstop. I love every song. And the cover art is so inspiring that I decided to do a little painting on photos I took of Amber a la O'Keefe. I don't have pictures of them with the painted images yet, but the following two pictures of Amber are the ones I intend to use once I get them printed.
